Offering free education to children from Kolkata's red-light districts was only half the battle. Due to deeply unstable home environments and a lack of familial support, school attendance was critically low, and student motivation was fading.
Traditional teaching methods were simply ineffective for children carrying such heavy personal trauma. We faced a profound challenge: standard schooling was failing to engage these kids, creating an urgent need for an educational approach that excites, and inspires them to return to the classroom every day.
How we responded.
After discussions with educators and volunteers, we identified audio-visual learning as a powerful way to make lessons more engaging. We fundraised for and donated a projector to the school, enabling teachers to incorporate videos, animations, and interactive content into their daily lessons.
What it added up to.
- Rs. 25K raised for projector and delivered
- 35 enrolled students gained access to audio-visual learning resources and increased attendance by 100% per week
- Increased classroom participation through interactive learning methods
